How time flies...

I had cause to return "home" to Dover last weekend. I saw a sign to Jubilee Way. "Jubilee Way", named after the Queen's Silver - 25th - anniversary in 1977. This weekend we celebrate her Diamond - 60th - anniversary. Oh my, it makes me feel old - then again how must she feel?

In the mid 70s, the road design was radical - a road bypassing the town and curving out over the harbour to reduce ferry traffic through the town. Today Jubilee Way merely curves out over reclaimed land.

British summers - Diamond Jubilee

While not a regular summer event, the Jubilee is once again providing a reason to hang out the Union flags and bunting. Yesterday I had the opportunity to wander the streets of the City and snap a view of the way the shops, mainly specialist or luxury brands, are dressing their windows for the upcoming celebrations.

Out of the tunnel and into the light

(No spoilers here in case you haven’t seen the conclusion.)

Would we have found the killer? We definitely had one key fact right and our suspicions were heading in the right direction but would we have found the killer in time, who knows?

And, like The Killing, so many unanswered questions still!

Anyway, so much more to look forward to:
  • The rerun of The Killing II (which we missed as it started while we were in New Zealand).
  • The upcoming Den fördömde / Sebastian Bergman starring Rolf Lassgård (Wallander Mk I - although the character's background has too many similarities to the real-life experience of Linda Wallander played by the late Johanna Sallstrom).
  • Borgen II (& III which is in the production phase).
  • Wallander III (the Kenneth Branagh series - superb cinematography but the least convincing characters) - though the broadcast date is unclear. Soon?
  • And The Bridge II (which commences filming later this year).

If you're a Wallander fan (TV or book), these photos may be of interest to you.

Tack.

Picture this...

How technology advances with time.

March 2001 was when I invested in a Polaroid 320 at £19 (in a sale). 320 x 240 (0.1mp resolution), internal memory, fixed focus, no flash, no zoom - the digital equivalent of a Box Brownie.

This was my first foray into digital while still using a Canon 1000FN (35mm). While it was still a few more years before I ditched 35mm, the potential of digital became quickly apparent.

May 2012 - Canon 600D - 18mp resolution, SLR and all the usual Canon EOS features.

British summers - a daytrip to the seaside

Another British institution - a daytrip to the seaside. On this occasion it was to Margate, once the destination  not just for day trippers but also for many pre-war Londoners taking their holidays there or in neighbouring Ramsgate. Margate was also a destination for family days out in the sixties when Dreamland was still a special attraction.

Margate is starting to experience a renaissance, boosted by the opening of the Turner Contemporary art gallery. Last weekend the Old Town, close by the Turner, was resplendent in the hot sunny break we experienced in the water logged drought that the south east is "enjoying".

There’s lots still to be done to restore the glory and splendour of the old seaside town – but here’s hoping it’s successful.

So many questions, so little time...

I still have my suspicions about Charlotte. Does she keep more than just her normal hair under her wig? Is she connected to the killer? (Is she the killer?) Do she and Martin have a history? After all, why did he let her through on the bridge at the start of it all?

Why didn’t episode 8 BBCHD record on our freesat recorder?

What’s Mr Softwareman up to and what’s he trying to sell Mette? Would you be impressed by a bunch of flowers from the local garage?

What will Frida have to eat when August takes her to dinner for her thank you? Is Martin pleased that Frida has brought him and August closer together?

Why did it cost us over £30 for a couple of drinks and sandwiches at Copenhagen airport?

I have a contact who’s a senior investigator with Malmo police but he hasn’t appeared yet. With the killer to be caught, surely he should have been brought in by now? Should I contact him before the killer strikes again?

Why would anyone want to paint a 911 that colour?

Just over fifty hours and then we should know most of the answers…

And then there were none...

Another season of the BakerBirdBox (BBB) is over and the live feed has been replaced with highlights of the past season.

Year on year the BBB technology has increased, leading to this year's live internet feed which has been of interest to young and old, seasoned twitchers and casual watchers.

Thanks go to the BBB production team for the work they put into providing the live feed.

British summers - bluebells

Little surpasses a walk in the woods to see and smell a carpet of bluebells. We've been visiting Kings Wood, Challock since '79, both in the late spring to see the bluebells and at other times to enjoy the delights of the wood.

Unusually for this part of the south east, Kings Wood is of significant size and its possible to get lost. The woods are managed with regular coppicing taking place. Consequently the wood is forever changing its appearance as areas are cut down and others take on a different shape or appearance.

In hindsight it would have been wonderful to have digital photography and GPS tools to hand to record and monitor the changing shape of the woods.

Deeper into the woods it's possible to see a variety of wildlife including adders and fallow deer.

British summers

The combination of the upcoming Queen's diamond jubilee and London Olympics 2012 have created an outburst of all things patriotic and an abundance of red, white and blue bunting amongst the media and retail companies. I plan to support this initiative by occasionally reminding us of other things that are Britain.

So why does Charlotte wear a wig?

The Bridge goes on and on and on... And what are we going to discover tonight?
