Kurt's back...

I've just finished reading The Troubled Man, the last of the Wallander novels. For me a mixed bag.

It was great to read of him spending the day on the dunes at Sandhammarens and buying smoked fish in the smokery at Kaseberga, bringing back fond memories of our visit to Ystad last year.

However, the ending seemed somewhat rushed and rather fizzled out, a sense of it almost being an afterthought - unlike the retirement of Kurt's Scottish equivalent, John Rebus.

No matter, the recently ennobled Kenneth Branagh returns on Sunday to the BBC to reprise his version of Sweden's most famous detective. While not in the same league as Krister Henriksson, the cinematography of the previous Branagh episodes made up for the weirdness of an English-speaking cast set in Wallander's home town of Ystad.
